FAQ
Questions people ask us
What are the criteria for a place at the centre?
When a mother brings her child to us, we assess the child's needs. If we can meet them and have a vacancy, we offer a place; otherwise the child joins our waiting list. We generally offer places to children with profound needs, often with more than one impairment. More able children are referred to the local school for children with disabilities or to one of the two other NGOs in town that run a drop-in service.
Do you offer a place for life?
Sadly, no. We set aims and objectives for each child, and the staff use all our therapies to help them reach those goals. When one set is reached, we set new ones, until we feel we have achieved all we can. At that point we have to end the placement to make room for a new child. Our waiting list is very long and our budget limits how many children we can take.
Why has the project's name changed?
We began as The One Love Day Service, with our own licence and a board of Ethiopian members. Unfortunately that board proved untrustworthy and we had to give up the licence. To keep the service running, we accepted the local Ethiopian Catholic Church's generous offer to operate under their licence, and became The One Heart Therapeutic Centre.
We now once again have our own licence and a trustworthy board of professionals, and operate under this licence as The One Heart Wholeness Centre.
Can I visit?
Yes, please do. Visitors are welcome Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.
